The Golden Rule - the movie...

Through self directed explorations in art, music rap, and drama skits - teenage youth explore ways of embodying the core values of THE GOLDEN RULE ( ethic of reciprocity) of 13 of the world's great religions. «treat others as you want to be treated...» propels the viewer on a journey of discovery, giving life to what many consider to be the most consistent moral teaching throughout history.

THE GOLDEN RULE can be found in most religions, ethical systems, indigenous cultures and secular philosophies.

A poster version of THE GOLDEN RULE hangs at the UN & Vatican and is currently a world best seller.

Are you noticing the good stuff in you life?

When I am in a supermarket checkout line, I often feel that I have chosen the worst possible line. My guess is that I am not the only one having this feeling.

The problem is that we only notice things when they don't go as expected. When we choose the good line we don't notice it. We don't think «what a good line I have chosen. It was really quick!»

The Golden Rule to became a better and happier person

Imagine you are in a traffic jam. You see someone trying to break the line. You look at him and you recognize this person. It’s John, your coworker. You wave at him and let him pass.

Everybody in a traffic jam is like John, the only difference is that you don’t know them.

Why don’t you treat everybody as if they were your friends? I promise that it will make you a better and happier person.

How are you using your power?

«The little boy was playing in the fields. He saw an ant, took her in his hand, and smashed her. Then the little boy went away feeling no remorse.»

Why did he do that?
Because he could.

Are you using your power just because you can?
Be aware. Be very aware!

The 5 IMMUTABLE principles for success

Some time ago Glen B. Alleman posted in is blog the 5 IMMUTABLE principles of Project Management. Turns out that these same immutable principles also apply to managing your life. Here they are with slight adjustments:
  1. Know where you are going by defining “done” at some point in the future. This point may be far in the future – months or years from now. Or closer in the future days or weeks from now.
  2. Have some kind of plan to get to where you are going. Break it down in small tangible slices that can acknowledge with evidence. This is crucial for you to measure progress.
  3. Understand the resources needed to execute the plan. How much time and money is needed to reach the destination. Who needs to be involved. How are you going to get those resources.
  4. Identify the impediments to progress along the way to the destination. Have some means of removing, avoiding, or ignoring these impediments.
  5. Have some way to measure your planned progress, not just your progress. Measure your progress with evidence. You must have evidence of progress, find a way to get evidence of your progress.
In the absence of credible answers to these principles, you can come up with all kinds of reasons why things go wrong in your life. In fact you can come up with almost any reasons as to why you are failing in any area of your life.

Answering this principles in some credible manner doesn't assure success. But it goes a long way to improving the probability of success.

The golden rule for success

Before you commit to something you must know where you want to go and then have a plan and a scheduler to get there. After that work your ass out to meet your plan. Seth Godin explains this very well in this post.

If you fail to do both, soon you will find yourself drifting in life and complaining about luck. Be careful because this scales. Pays attention to symptoms. If you are having an hard time getting out of bed in the morning, that is the first symptom.

What have you done today to make progress in your life plan? You don’t have a life plan? Go work on it right now, it’s the most important task you should have in your agenda.

Tomorrow I'll write more about this subject. Subscribe to Online Motivator by Email to make sure you will not miss it.

Are you asking the right questions?

A few weeks ago my wife told me that the kitchen sink had a leak and need to buy a new faucet.

Due to Christmas season, we did not have time to go shopping for a new one, and every day we had to empty a bucket full of water.

Today I looked at the tap and I thought, why not try to fix it? And so I fixed it.

If at the time my wife had said «The kitchen sink faucet is damaged, can you try to arrange it?» , we would have saved a lot of water.

Are you asking the right questions in your life?
